ASP 2010 AUGUST MEETING, TWO CONFERENCES FOR EDUCATORS

As you are planning your 2010 calendar and budget, we wanted to let you know
that plans are moving along for the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Astronomical
Society of the Pacific (ASP), 31July­04August, at the University of Colorado
in Boulder, in one of the most beautiful settings in the USA, and featuring
two concurrent 3-day conferences 02­04 August.

United Nations Basic Space Science Initiative (UNBSSI) 1991-2012

The UBSSI is a long-term effort for the development of astronomy and space science through regional and international cooperation in this field on a worldwide basis, particularly in developing nations.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPPPORTUNITY : J. MAYO GREENBERG SCHOLARSHIP PRIZE - 2009

Leiden Observatory and the Leids Universiteitfonds have pleasure in inviting applications for the fourth J. Mayo Greenberg Scholarship Prize. Mrs. Naomi Greenberg and family members of the late Professor J. Mayo Greenberg, the distinguished Leiden astrophysicist, have generously provided funds for this scholarship in memory of Professor Greenberg. Additional funding provided by the Kruytbosch Legacy, the Leids Universiteitfonds and Leiden Observatory will enable the Scholarship Prize to be awarded annually.

TEACHING INTRODUCTORY ASTRONOMY TO NON SCIENCE MAJORS, 3-5 AUGUST 2007, USA

Cosmos in the Classroom 2007, a three-day, hands on symposium on teaching astronomy to non science majors, will be held from August 3 - 5, 2007 at Pomona College in Southern California . The meeting is sponsored by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP), with co-sponsorship by a range of astronomical and educational organizations. JENAM-2007 will take place in Yerevan ( Armenia ) on 20-25 August 2007. It will consist of 6 plenary sessions (invited reviews on hot topics of modern astrophysics ) , 8 EAS Symposia, and 7 Special Sessions (SPS). SPS5 is devoted to Astronomy Education in Europe . It will take place on 20-22 August 2007. Conveners: Hayk Harutyunyan ( Armenia ), Areg Mickaelian ( Armenia ), Magda Stavinschi ( Romania ).
